Chapter Four: FOTOMOTO

Untitled (2022)
These are photographs of the gas burners on our stove at home. I meant to represent what “home” was to me through objects, rather than space. To me, these worn-out burners tell a story of service, of usefulness, of labor often overlooked. The patina of daily sacrifices made in order to sustain and nourish the home and its inhabitants made them compelling subjects.
In 2021, the photo collective FOTOMOTO was founded by a small group of photographers, writers, curators and artists.
What began as an idea for a small group show ended up as a series of shows featuring over a hundred Filipino photographers in various spots around the city. This inaugural edition, entitled FOTOMOTO21: Portraits, would eventually be shown as a complete collection in Orange Project in Bacolod City.
Following the initial success of 2021, FOTOMOTO launched its first national Open Call in 2022 with the theme: HOME.
The images above were shown in large format at the FOTOMOTO22: Home inaugural exhibit at the UP Fine Arts Gallery (PAROLA), as well as in the succeeding shows at Bencab Museum in Benguet and at The Orange Project in the Art District in Bacolod City.
